MICHIGAN THE BEST STATE IN THE COUNTRY!!!!

I am going to go ahead and start to face it we live the best state in this country. Some will read this and think I am fucking nutcase for thinking this, but whatever. Ok let’s start of with listing the great aspects living in this state.

  1. Its undiscovered treasures. It’s truly unreal that we have a state in this country with vast amounts of land that very few have even taken the time to check out. When people think of Michigan they think of the line that goes from Grand Rapids over to Detroit going through such places like Lansing and Ann Arbor, and when people talk about moving inside Michigan they only count these few places. This state as another huge section of it. The northern part of Mi is breath taking to say the least. We also have the upper peninsula and the lower peninsula. So much space so much beauty to be seen. How many of you really have seen this entire state?
  2. It’s an anarchist paradise. From the vacant houses in Detroit to the cheap houses for sale in Grand Rapids, and the land hidden away in the upper peninsula. Rent is so cheap getting a few people together to live as a collective and have a killer garden is not so hard at all in these parts. I pay 200 bucks a month at my collectively ran house. I am not crowded I have a ton of space. I have a great garden and a nice yard. It seems as an anarchist this is what we have always wanted.
  3. Four seasons all-awesome. Yes winter for some is tough, but come on look outside it’s the best place on earth. You get four real seasons also the best of each one. Each one brings a new emotion to my heart and all I love yes some more then others but still they are all close to me in many ways.
  4. BEER we have the best beer in the world right here in this state. I have never seen so much awesome local creative beer in my life. I just went up north to right brain brewery and had an asparagus beer made with 90 pounds of local asparagus. Tell me another fucking state that has this. We have no reason to drink other beers but Michigan because nothing compares.
  5. People are so friendly all around. Yes in the punk scene we have some tough guy attitudes, but look outside that circle and you find some really awesome people. Not to say the punk scene also does not have many many great folks.
  6. The great lakes come on its better then the ocean and a lot safer no sharks.
  7. The final reason why this state is great is because it needs us. It needs all of us to buy local to support each other and help this great state become even better. Not a lot of states really need you as much as this state does. A lot of states are over crowded using many natural resources they don’t have so some even take water from this state just so people can live in places like North and South Carolina. This state has the natural resources to maintain many many more people. Now it’s our job to get more people to see the greatness. Imagine if we all bought everything local and we all did everything we could do inside of Michigan. If you want to take a vacation do it in Michigan. If we all forgot about the rest of the country for a few years and just dumped all our money into Michigan we would see a great change. Like I said this state needs you. It’s been four years since I moved here and I have never been so happy in my life. I am proud to be a part of this state.

On a final note me and a group of people are working a on a film called LOCALLY BUZZED. This is a film about Michigan and Michigan beer. We will enter it in art prize this year which begins Sept 22nd keep your eyes open and you count on the fact that if we won we would do something pretty rad in Michigan. Please take time to check out the short trailer below for this film. Also for constant updates check www.locallybuzzed.blogspot.com

Until next time punks and skins forever!!!!!

Cheers, Ryan

    Hi Ryan -

I agree with much of this as I have committed to living in Grand Rapids for a long time, but I’m not sure that I would call Michigan an “anarchist paradise.” Sure, you can live pretty cheap here, grow your own food, start small collective projects, etc but there is a distinct lack of organized anarchist activity in Michigan (especially in Grand Rapids). There are a few groups, but without more political activity going on I’m not sure how I feel about that statement.

That said, it sounds like a perfect challenge for people–start collective projects and make Grand Rapids an “anarchist paradise”!

I agree thats what i mean. I am saying that we could make it that not that it is. I think this state is ours for the taking. I was just up north doing an interview with Joe owner of shorts brewery and I think he may have talked me into wanting to move north. GR is Ok but the north rules. i have been thinking about moving to a small northern part of MI and doing something like radical vegan resturant or something like that.
