Is there any agenda lyrically that fuels this band?
Nathan: Me and John write all the lyrics… John’s lyrics are about anti-war, post-apocalyptic, lifestyles and like living in ruins and wastelands… which is obviously horrible, and we’re not trying to glorify anything but mutants can be pretty cool. The other half is about John with more mental problems and being institutionalized as a child (John: I was a sad boy) and the majority of mine are about hating work and hating life. So it’s a broad spectrum, which is really cool.
You may have noticed some of the older bands that have gotten back together now are more right-wing than they were in the 80s. What do you think about the right-wing stance in punk and hardcore?
Nathan: Culo hates normals. We just don’t give a fuck about those people. They had their time then, that’s it.
Why does Culo have two guitar players and no bass player?
Nathan: Because bass is slow and heavy, and we’re the youth, we want to be fast. Who needs bass? That’s the only answer I have.
John: Bass is for normals and we hate normals.
Nathan: If you could just listen to bass or guitar what would you listen to? You’d listen to guitar, it’s that simple.
So for final ending, is there anything you want to add? Bands? Contact?
Nathan: 138 Melrose Ave. South Elgin, IL… stay punk and stab fascists and definitely check out BUNNY SKULLS and STATE. Everything STATE embodies is what hardcore is about. If you can be that fucking old… after seeing all those bands from the same era they’re all old they’re all jaded, they all have guarantees… STATE are old duded that have been ripping it forever and they still do shit on a D.I.Y. level… it’s fucking awesome. That’s what I want to be doing when I’m that age.
John: Shoot a cop, kill a jock, fuck war.
